Dandelion: Getting Life in Balance

I was watching the Animal Planet this morning with my cat (her favorite show) and saw this video on “Too Cute!” The puppy works up her courage to finally attack and subdue a dandelion head which must have appeared to the puppy as an intimidating foe.

Later I was going through some notes I had taken from a flower essence I took where dandelion was mentioned as being used in teas for digestion. Then I opened my box of Affirm a Flower Photo Affirmation Cards for the FES flower essences and there right on top was Dandelion!

Three times the charm: dandelion has something to say to me today! It is such a beautiful flower and in seed is so whimsical. How sad it’s been labeled a weed and people go to great lengths employing all kinds of chemicals to banish them from their yards.

It is interesting that we like the puppy seem to be intrigued by dandelions when they have gone to seed. They are successful at spreading themselves through the seeds that fly off with their little parachute when the wind blows. A search of dandelion images brings up many of the dandelion head pictures as computer or smart phone wallpaper. This popularity tells me that in work environments, this flower offers some kind of balance or uplift to ameliorate stress or why would people be attracted to it for wallpaper?

What can a dandelion flower essence provide? We pick up on the essence of flowers through our senses, seeing, touching, smelling. Flower essences can also be prepared by placing the flower in bowls of pure water in the sun. The essence goes into the water. Then the flowers are removed and the flower essence water is preserved usually with brandy (40 – 50%). It is now ready to  be placed in a dropper or spray bottle so you can take 4 drops under the tongue, place on chakra points, or add to massage oil or bath. Dandelion is an easy flower essence to make since dandelions in the summer are so prevalent in most places. They even grow here in Arizona without grass lawns! That tells me it has a gift that many of us need.

If you would prefer to buy the flower essence professionally prepared, FES (Flower Essence Service) has dandelion flower essence.

Dandelion flower essence help the many of us who try to do too much and do not take time to just be and connect with our inner and higher self. Our work culture often pushes us to go past our body’s limits and ignore our body’s needs. If you get tension in the muscles of your neck and shoulders (I know I do), dandelion may be indicated. Dandelion can help you release the muscle tension allowing your body to relax and your emotions to be released. You can start to tune into what your body is trying to tell you. You can become a more balanced human being as well as human doing. To quote Anne McIntyre in Flower Power: Flower Remedies for Healing Body and Soul Through Herbalism, Homeopathy, Aromatherapy, and Flower Essences “Energy, activity and enthusiasm become balanced with a sense of inner ease.” Let the dandelions grow and find time for spiritual or emotional expression!
